What is Search for Jesse?
The second main quest chain follows visions of Jesse Faden into three Faults — ritual spaces where Dylan helps his sister. All three follow one pattern: a vision appears, you track it down, enter the Fault, and complete the ritual. Two of them hand over the traversal powers that Contain the Crisis quietly assumes you already have, which is why the chain reads as optional but isn’t.
A first Fault also sits inside Orientation — it grants Rush (the double-jump / elevate / air-dash kit) automatically, so it never blocks anyone.
All three Faults
| Fault | Where it starts | Requires | Ability granted |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Incursion Fault | West Incursion Zone — get the parking garage key, enter via the roof | — | Shift — align with Gravity Anomalies to run along walls |
| The Subway Fault | Evacuation Zone subway | Shift | Reach — pulls Dylan toward traversal points |
| The Underpass Fault | Island of orange pipes in the Underpass, from The Spire | Reach | None — advances Jesse’s story |
When should you do them?
Immediately when each opens. The ordering matters because each Fault’s reward unlocks the next one’s door:
- Skipping the Incursion Fault blocks the route to the Theater (and the West Incursion Resonant inside it).
- Skipping the Subway Fault is what stalls Recursions and Iterations — Dylan ends up staring at a gap in the Underpass he physically cannot cross without Reach.
- The Underpass Fault itself needs Reach and closes out the chain — it also shuts down the Notes: Jesse Sightings log entry.
Completing the three Jesse Faults — together with the Orientation and Oldest House rituals folded into the story — completes every Fault ritual for the Sibling Reunion trophy, and dimensional traversal is required to reach the Unknown endgame.

What changes once you have both powers?
Shift plus Reach turns the map inside out: Gravity Anomaly walls, distant floating platforms, and high ledges across the zones all open — including several side stories and collectible routes that are impossible on foot. If a marker looks unreachable, the answer is almost always “come back after the next Fault.”
